On the Wine Trail with Tom Portet - Day 1

Langton’s Adventures in Wine

27 March - Lunch with Becky Wasserman

Langton’s Head of Buying, Tom Portet, is currently in France with Andrew Caillard MW, visiting some of the great Domaines and Chateaux of Burgundy and Bordeaux that Langton’s is proud to be working with.

The superlative Becky Wasserman - a true Burgundian icon and one of the great pioneering woman of wine along with Cliquot, Bollinger, Leflaive and Bize-Leroy. Becky landed in Burgundy from Philadelphia in 1968, and founded a wine broking business which celebrated it’s 35th anniversary a couple of years ago.

Her intelligence, modesty, selflessness and eloquence has not only made her one of the unofficial ambassadors of Burgundy but one of it’s most loved and respected authorities.

As Aubert de Villaine (Director of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) says, “Becky has understood Burgun-dy better than anyone else, she can explain it – this makes her one of the best ambassadors for Burgundy in the world, especially in the US. There is no-one better, because she is capable of speaking about the ‘cli-mats de la Bourgogne’ – the terroirs – in a way that is practical, not just intellectual, from all she has learned from the vignerons.”
