Sell at auction with Langton’s
It’s springtime – and that’s the time to review the contents of your cellar and sell wine you no longer need for whatever reason.
The market is vibrant and we are heading into the best time of year to sell – the spring racing season and its highlight, the Melbourne Cup, followed by the festive and holiday season.
Langton’s holds at least four online wine auctions each week.
Whatever measure you take – quantity and variety of wine for sale, volume of bidding, number of bidders, clearance rates, prices realised – we are the leaders.
This is hardly surprising. Langton’s – founded in 1988 – was Australia’s first specialist wine auction house and has dominated the secondary market ever since. Langton’s remains by far the largest domestic and international marketplace for Penfolds Grange.
Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine, entry to which depends principally on performance at auction over time, is recognised internationally as the independent ‘form-guide’ to fine Australian wine. The Classification first appeared in 1990 and is now in its sixth edition.
As well as fine and rare wine, we have auctions focusing on wines expected to sell for no more than $30 a bottle, or for quick results, a fortnightly Auction where all auctions start at $5. There is also a full program of special event and themed auctions.
Secondary market prices commonly reflect wholesale rather than retail prices but nevertheless, auction results can sometimes be spectacular.
There was a great example in July when James Hallidays’ 2016 Wine of the Year, Serrat Yarra Valley Shiraz Viognier 2014, achieved an almost instant 10-fold price increase, from $42 to $466 per bottle.
Send your list of wines to us for a free appraisal.
If you need to dispose of a cellar quickly we may be able to buy it outright.
We sell in lots of a single bottle to whole dozens and we will photograph and catalogue your wine so as to achieve the best results. Our commission rates are competitive.
Wine for auction is held at our warehouse in Hoppers Crossing, near Melbourne. We can usually pick up a consignment from your cellar location and transport it without charge.
The first step is to complete the form below here in as much detail as you can. A member of our team will contact you as soon as an initial valuation has been completed.
