Wine journalist Tony Keys is considered by many of us as one of the strongest and most enthusiastic advocates for Australian wine. His e-letter The Key Report is one of the most insightful and well-researched weekly reviews of the Australian and international wine industries.

His dedication, love and hopes for the Australian wine community are distilled into a quirky yet familiar ranting about our wine culture; the good, the bad, the ugly and anything that most other wine journalists wouldn’t touch. He is a man who we all greatly respect and admire for his honesty, integrity and passion for the betterment of our wine community and our future.

On the other hand, Tony Keys has never been afraid to dish it out when we fail to meet up to his expectations! Over the years, like many others, I have been admonished, sometimes praised and occasionally urged “to do better”. It is this candour, brutal appraisal and emotional connection with the industry that sets Tony apart from other wine journalists. He writes about wine and wine business as though he is commentating a football match. No man or woman in the wine industry is immune from his provocative and probing inquisitions. Like many sports journalists Tony Keys is amusing, annoying, funny, a touch moody, but always someone who we can trust to say how it is; painful as it might sometimes be!

Our lives are brightened by Tony’s many genuine insights, research and opinions. His contribution and dedication to the Australian wine community, through The Key Report and other activities are greatly appreciated and valued.

In recent times, many of us have discovered that Tony Keys has been struggling with a serious health condition. Although he has been hopeful for a lung transplant, this is now unlikely. Unfortunately his ongoing medical treatment will continue to place a significant strain on his family and financial resources.

As a consequence this online auction has been pulled together by Tony’s many friends in the Australian wine community. All of the lots have been donated and Langton’s will also contribute all commissions. We feel privileged to be involved with this important fundraising event. Tony Keys represents many of the values we respect and admire in our industry. By supporting this auction, you are making a wonderful and meaningful gesture.

On behalf of all Tony’s friends, we urge you to bid generously.

You will make a great difference!
