The Wine of Show went to the Nocturne Chardonnay 2016. While you might not be familiar with the name Nocture, you might know the name behind the name. Julian Langworthy is the transformative winemaker behind behind Deep Woods and Jimmy Watson winner in 2006. He and his wife Alana (a cheesemaker and former winemaker) are behind this stunning Chardonnay.

There were winners and then there were the stars. One in particular stood out for Clayton Buffoni of Langton’s, and that Rosé. The pink wine has been enjoying a global renaissance for the last few years and winemakers in West Australia have been responding with stunning wines.

At the Langton’s 2017 Margaret River Wine Show, there were two winemakers that caught our imagination. The story goes, winemakers from Preveli and Flametree took some Pinot Noir from the same paddock back to their respective wineries. They worked their winemaker magic and the result was the Preveli Pinot Rosé 'Wild Thing' 2017 and Flametree Pinot Rosé 2017.

Guests at the Langton’s 2017 Margaret River Wine Show were offered these Rosés as they walked through the foyer into the venue. Lager those same two winemakers took home a gold medal each in the Rosé 2016 & 2017 category. But it was Cliff Royle from Previelli who edged it out to win the Trophy for Best Rosé and a salmon-coloured jacket.

" …it’s all about the Rosé."

It was incredibly talented winemaker Julian Langworthy who started this style and it’s quickly becoming a tradition for the Margaret River winemakers who are all about Rosé. And it was Julian Langworthy, himself a Rosé champion and obsessive, who presented Cliff Royle with his very own pink jacket.

Congratulations to Cliff, Julian and all the winners of trophies, medals and hearts at the Langton’s 2017 Margaret River Wine Show.
