SPERI Vigneto Monte Sant' Urbano Classico, Amarone Della Valpolicella 2016

Speri Vigneto Monte Sant' Urbano Classico, Amarone Della Valpolicella

Symbolic of the Speri company, the Amarone Sant’Urbano is an incredible expression of site. The old vines of the Monte Sant’Urbano vineyard are located on a sun drenched hill in the municipality of Fumane. Grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, and only the best fruit from the best vintages are selected. The grapes are then dried on traditional ‘arele’ wooden and bamboo racks before destemming and pressing. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 24 months in French oak tonneaux and 18 months in Slavonian oak casks. At least 12 months must elapse for maturation before the wine goes to market to achieve the best possible quality. The bouquet swirls with scents of dried fruit followed by a full-bodied, warm, mouth-filling and dry palate. Displaying elegance and remarkable complexity with a muscular structure, the Amarone Sant’Urbano is a superb example of fine, classic Italian wine.

Region Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG

From the idyllic hillside of Veneto in northeast Italy comes Amarone wine. Notoriously labour-intensive and ultra-rare, Amarone Della Valpolicella is an intense, dry red wine made from partially dried grapes (appassimento). Meticulous rules and regulations ensure consistently high quality, and while these wines take several years to produce, the payoff is sublime. Classed as one of the region’s most prestigious reds, and undeniably in the upper echelon of Italian wines, Amarone brings all the hedonistic joy you’d expect from a European great.

Winery SPERI

A prominent family with deep historical ties to Valpolicella, the Speri family produces Valpolicella Classica wines steeped in tradition. The family’s winemaking roots in the territory date back to 1874, and with members of both the 4th and 5th generations at the helm, it’s one of the region’s oldest family-run estates. Speri produces native grape varieties of the Valpolicella zone exclusively, with the family personally managing every detail. Certified organic since 2015, every grape that goes into their wines is estate grown and personally cultivated. Speri’s wines are a thrilling version of the royal Veronese wines and they remain one of the foremost producers of authentic red wines the world over.
