The Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a cuvée that sits confidently among the region’s very best. Ancient, gnarled bush vines on sand yield abstemious yields of pure Grenache. Non-destemmed and extracted gently, the wine then undergoes elevage in a combination of two to three-year-old smaller barrels and larger foudres.
The result is sumptuous. Measured power melded with the sort of uncanny elegance and freshness that makes Grenache grown on sand the natural brethren of the greatest Burgundy. Think kirsch, tapenade, charcuterie and garrigue herb and spice strung across a smooth chassis of creamy tannins and herbal acidity. A tour de force!
