Region Pemberton

John Gladstones, an influential agricultural scientist who played a key role in vineyard establishment in Western Australia, recommended Pemberton as a viable grape region in 1977, leading to the first experimental plantings. However it was not until 1982 that the first commercial vineyards were established. Pemberton is found southeast of Margaret River in the lower south-western portion of Western Australia. The region enjoys a maritime climate with most vineyards anchored on gravelly sand and loam, at an altitude up to 200 metres above sea level. Pemberton is a region dotted with small family run boutique wineries, however 85% of the region is still bushland, forested with local karri trees. Chardonnay is one of Pemberton’s most successful varieties often made in a full-bodied generous style although Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon also thrive in the region.
