Garagiste Tuerong is a single site Chardonnay from one of Mornington’s benchmark producers. Winemaker Barney Flanders aims to express the true character of his vineyards in his wines, and this is no exception.
Tuerong comes from the Robinson vineyard, where the vines grow in black sand. The fruit, naturally, is hand-harvested, hand-sorted, and whole bunch pressed. It’s aged in minimal new oak.
While you’ll taste a small lick of oak here, it’s really all about the fruit. It’s pure and powerful, the line of acid a refreshing surprise.
The Mornington Peninsula is located approximately one hour south of Melbourne. A cool maritime climate,the region is virtually frost free, but is susceptible to high winds. Rainfall is moderate, throughout winter and the growing season. Most of the vineyards are located between just above sea level and 200 metres. Soils range from weathered volcanic soils to sandy loams and friable well-drained clays. Mornington Peninsula is best known for making elegant cool climate Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and sublime Pinot Noir.
