Girolamo Russo Calderara Sottana is a Nerello Mascalese (the iconic red grape of Etna) with a smoky mineral purity indicative of the black pumice in which it grows. Incredible depth and rich perfume of strawberries, balsamic, cherry and rose. This wine is at once fresh and ripe, capturing remarkable fruit concentration. The 2017 marked the inaugural vintage of this wine.
In 2005, Giuseppe Russo was drawn back to his childhood home on Sicily’s Mount Etna to make wine. Named after his late father, he creates elegant and expressive wines that speak of the volcano’s incredibly varied terroir. The crus (or ‘contrade’) in which Russo grows his grapes are among the finest on Etna’s north side, and he conducts all of his production organically.
