Stefano Lubiana Sasso Pinot Noir
Stefano Lubiana Wines is gaining a reputation as one of Australia’s top Pinot Noir Producers. The 18 hectare vineyard, planted on gravelly/alluvial soils leading down to the Derwent Estuary at Granton 20 kilometres north of Hobart, is reaching a compelling maturity.
Sasso (stone) is a selection of best barrels and is only made from a distinguished vintage. Yields are a very low: 1kg per vine; well below the Australian average. A ‘hands-off’ approach is central to Burgundian style winemaking philosophy. The wine is matured in 50% new French oak for 12 months before bottling. The 2005 is a beautifully fragrant wine with red cherry/ meaty/ savoury aromas and flavours, lovely mid-palate richness and fine silken tannins. This is a particularly rare bottling. Top vintages: 2008 & 2005.
