The 2018 Viognier Estate Reserve has a slightly more reserved bouquet than I recall, yet still displays exquisite delineation. While less phenolic than other Viogniers, it has wonderful mineralité and fans out with brio on the sapid finish. This is a sophisticated expression of the grape variety.

The 2018 Estate Reserve Viognier, vinified in the same manner as the 2017, has a tighter and more linear bouquet compared to the previous vintage, although given another 24 months it will find its voice. The medium-bodied palate is clean and precise, displaying fine acidity and an almost clinical sense of delineation on the persistent finish. Great potential here - one to watch.

Very few producers in South Africa made better whites in 2018 than in 2017, but Lismore is one of them, which is a tribute to Sam O'Keefe's dedication and talent. This is broader and even richer than usual, but it's not a blowsy wine. Smooth and intensely aromatic, with citrus and apricot skin flavours and a stylish, knowing decadence.
