BETHANY WINES LE Shiraz, Barossa Valley
The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard in the Flaxman Valley subregion of Eden Valley. LE does not stand for Limited Edition as one might expect (including 'Reserve' in the name might then have been a little bit of overkill), but rather Lawrence and Edna Schrapel, fourth generation of the family, who for over half a century were the custodians of the Bethany Vineyard. French oak. Under cork. Purple/magenta, the nose is an intriguing mix of aromas. Red currants, spices, cloves, rose petals, bacon fat, cocoa powder, plums and aniseed. A gorgeously slippery and sleek palate. A fine line of acidity, great length with the intensity maintained throughout, and exemplary balance. More chocolate emerges on the palate. Utterly delicious. Fifteen to twenty years.

BETHANY WINES LE Shiraz, Barossa Valley
Deep magenta in the glass and showing plush fruit characters of blackberry, black cherry and plum with hints of licorice, dark chocolate, baking spices and lighter wafts of eucalyptus, bay leaf and creme de cassis. Full bodied with a powdery tanning structure, black fruits are joined by hints of cedar, mint and violets on the palate, finishing long and true with excellent acid drive. Very good indeed
