About this wine
Nominally Pauillac, this First Growth sits almost astride the border of St. Julien and its output – as one would expect – is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with 10 per cent awarded to both Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Any experience with Latour is to be savoured with patience – this notoriously slow-developing wine requires at least a decade or two’s development. But the reward for this patience is a fulsome melange of power, finesse, depth and tone.

Expert Review
Stephen Tanzer
"Deep ruby-red colour. More expressive aromas of crystallized dark berries, dark chocolate and animal fur. Lush and sweet; thick but delineated. Wonderfully concentrated. This, too, seems rather withdrawn today, but the strength of material is clear to see. Finishes with firm tannins and explosive fruit that goes on and on."
94+ points, Stephen Tanzer (Review May 1998)

Jancis Robinson MW
Lustrous deep crimson almost right out to the rim still. Hint of mint on the nose – quite aromatic. Pretty. Charming for a Latour grand vin! Though there is a strong undertow of graphite. More intense than 1996.
