About this wine
Domaine de Cambes, Bordeaux
The Domaine de Cambes Bordeaux is a blend of majority Merlot with Cabernet, produced from the Roc de Cambes vineyard. Pure and expressive, the nose is rich with cassis, forest berries and violet. A soft, smooth palate meets with fine tannins and gently spiced character. Ripe and intense, you will taste black cherries, a nip of menthol and anise.
Those with a passion for Bordeaux are likely to know the name ‘Mitjaville’. The family owns two other renowned Bordeaux Château–Tertre-Roteboeuf Saint-Émilion and Domaine de Cambes. Current patriarch Louis Mitjaville inherited his title from father François, who launched his career when his wife inherited Tertre-Roteboeuf in the 1970s.

Deep crimson. Fresh blackcurrant, chinotto hint black olive aromas with toasty vanilla notes. Well concentrated blackcurrant, black olive toasty flavours, fine grainy/ al dente tannins, some savoury roasted walnut complexity and integrated fresh acidity. Finishes firm with an inky plume. 70% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon. 16 months in approximately 70% new French oak. 13% alc

From vines growing on deep, cool clays on the foggy bank of the Gironde, where tannins degrade without any loss of freshness, the 2021 Domaine de Cambes unfurls in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, mulberries, cocoa nib, tobacco and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's lively and succulent, concluding with a long, saline finish. Despite its evident quality, it's entitled to no more than the simple Bordeaux appellation.

The 2021 Domaine des Cambes is a very pretty wine with lovely aromatic presence and detail. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, spice and mint grace a delicate, understated Domaine des Cambes that is all charm. The 2021 is attractive, but also a bit light in texture but it opens nicely with a bit of air.

The 2021 Domaine des Cambes is a doppelgänger for a Burgundy with its pure dark cherry and blueberry fruit, very pure and perfumed. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins framing black plum and boysenberry fruit laced with white pepper. Gentle, almost soothing, this should be absolutely delicious once in bottle.
