This estate-grown Bordeaux blend has become a model of consistency for an ever-increasing number of years. The Frankland Estate reds are in excellent shape; perhaps the best shape I’ve seen them in. This wine is looking the goods too. Grassy, herb and nut-like notes are washed through with cherry-plum and musk. Complex and come-hither at once. Flying.

Deep, youthful purple/red colour, with an intense, bright, straightforward, youthful, fruit-driven aroma of violets and nutty oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied and a little plain, but only because it's so youthful, one suspects. It's yet to show the charm and complexity of which it seems capable. It needs more time. Red fruits, earth and spice sashay across the medium-bodied frame meeting finely crafted tannins. Pure and long on the finish and seems effortless. Certainly effortless to drink.

Compelling wine. Riveted to green herbs, violets, choc-cherry-mint, dark cherry/berry fruit character, a touch of earthiness and black olive thing going on. Sarsaparilla, herbs and earthiness to taste, all set in a very svelte, dark, brooding frame. Midnight across the palate, stealthy, long as you like, tightening with fine tannins and a touch of succulent sweetness as it closes. Magnificent feel here.

Love the freshness mixed with sweet loam and spice. Big personality. A rolling, regional wine that this estate does so well.

Beautiful wine. Elegant, well-flavoured and long. Complex in an effortless way. Florals, dark berries, peppercorns and sweet cedar. An array of spices. Ultra-fine tannin melted straight into the flavour. There’s a whisper of truffle/corn here but, and I don’t say this too often, it works in context. A gentle creaminess to the texture is the icing. This is pretty terrific. Gold standard.

Deep red colour with a good tint of purple, and a lifted fragrance of raspberry and red cherry, cassis, cedar and blueberry hints, the palate full-bodied and firm, densely-packed with flavour and tannins. Concentrated, essency, dense and powerful, it lingers very long on the farewell. Tightly packed. Lots of detail. A most impressive red, cabernet franc clearly leading the charge.

Medium bodied, just ripe red and black berry fruit characters, earthy spice, some seaweed and green herb notes shot through. Texture is good, length is good, the wine a feast of fruit and spice, mellowness and even flow. Relaxed feel, is perhaps a good way of putting it. That being said, plenty of concentration and detail, and a savoury, seaweedy finish is nice. Very good.

Pretty smelling wine with redcurrant jelly, blackcurrant, flowers, sweet tobacco, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied, succulent yet savoury too, with firm chocolaty tannin, fresh and lively, a little bit of mint in here, but also the perfume of rosehip. Finish is long with a slick of slate-like tannin. Different. Expressive. And very lovely.

Lovely bright purplish colour introduces this classy wine. It's fagrant with appealing raspberry and blackcurrant scents, backed up by sensitively-handled cedary and chocolatey oak input. It offers lovely freshness on the nose, at the same time suggesting real power. The palate follows suit with a solid undercurrent of concentrated fruit extract, rich and long, tangy with acidity and supported by firm, grainy tannins. A wine that cries out for bottle age to build on its excellent foundations.

The fragrance of Franc, with support most importantly from Merlot, presents a lifted and fine-boned style of sweet fruit presence. Epic Franc tannins of super fine-ground structure and grand endurance define a finish of benchmark line and length. The greatest Olmo's I've tasted yet.
