KRONDORF Kingship Cabernet Sauvignon, Barossa Valley

Tanunda’s annual Kingship Competition was once a highly prized event in South Australia. The best riflemen competed with each other to become the famed ‘King’ marksman of the year. In tribute Krondorf craft the Kingship Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit sourced from a vineyard on Rifle Range Road, home of the former Tanunda Rifle Club. The soil profile is black cracking clay which lends itself to growing Cabernet Sauvignon fruit of superior quality. Individual parcels of fruit are vinified in small stainless steel fermenters with gentle extraction of tannins, then aged in new and second-use French oak hogsheads for 18 months. The resulting wine has lifted dark berry cassis aromatics, leafy sage notes, hints of subtle oak. Blackberry and mulberry fruit flavours are complemented by cassis and warming spice. Silky fine long tannins and well integrated oak lead to a long, persistent finish. This is a classic Barossan Cabernet Sauvignon.
