Starting with five bottles of 2022 Le Volte dell’Ornellaia (RRP $55 per bottle), an instantly enjoyable and versatile wine, made from three different varietals (Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet). Fermented separately to reveal their unique characteristics and aged for 10 months, this is a wine that maintains perfect balance between tannin structure and fruit expression. But, the magic doesn’t end there. We’ve upgraded the final bottle in this half-dozen to a heavyweight of Italian fine wine; the flagship 2021 Ornellaia (RRP $499). Deep ruby red, with a nose of red fruits, delicate vanilla and tobacco. The wine reveals itself to be rounded and velvety, the tannins dense yet elegant with a savoury and long finish.
