About this wine

Mount Pleasant 1921 Vines Old Paddock Vineyard Shiraz, Hunter Valley

The Mount Pleasant Block series calls on the hallowed vines planted by Maurice O’Shea—the Old Paddock (1921) and Rosehill (1946). The series also showcases limited quantities of wine from vines familiar to those who visit the winery, the Old Hill. Planted 1880, the vines provided fruit to O’Shea as hewed his reputation from and into the bedrock of the Australian wine story.

Maurice O'Shea planted the Old Paddock vineyard when he took ownership of Mount Pleasant in 1921. These original 100-years-old vines produce exquisite fruit for the single-vineyard 1921 Vines Old Paddock Shiraz.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Mount Pleasant
The historic Mount Pleasant vineyard was established in 1921 by Maurice O’ Shea, the legendary winemaker and father of wine in the Hunter Valley. The vineyard is found in Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter, NSW. In 1941 the McWilliams family bought Mt Pleasant Estate keeping O’Shea on as winemaker. In 1945 the iconic single vineyards, Lovedale and Rosehill vineyards were planted, they go on to become some of the best Semillon and Shiraz this country has to offer, pure expressions of the Hunter Valley. It is in 1967 that Mount Pleasant produces the first Elizabeth Semillon, a more approachable Semillon with age ability. Wines produced include Semillon and Shiraz, which excel in the Hunter Valley, as well as Verdehlo, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, ranging from premium Flagship to everyday favourites
