About this wine

Elizabeth Semillon was first made by Mount Pleasant in 1967. Named for Her Majesty and inspired by the first royal visit to Australia in 1954, it’s appropriate that age only adds to this classic Hunter Valley Semillon’s character and class.

‘This really is something special…’
- James Halliday on the 2010 vintage

Grapefruit and cut grass greet the nose, and the palate is at once energetic and fleshy, a stream of fine acidity lending freshness. Elizabeth is built for the ages, and will evolve gracefully with careful cellaring.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Mount Pleasant
The historic Mount Pleasant vineyard was established in 1921 by Maurice O’ Shea, the legendary winemaker and father of wine in the Hunter Valley. The vineyard is found in Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter, NSW. In 1941 the McWilliams family bought Mt Pleasant Estate keeping O’Shea on as winemaker. In 1945 the iconic single vineyards, Lovedale and Rosehill vineyards were planted, they go on to become some of the best Semillon and Shiraz this country has to offer, pure expressions of the Hunter Valley. It is in 1967 that Mount Pleasant produces the first Elizabeth Semillon, a more approachable Semillon with age ability. Wines produced include Semillon and Shiraz, which excel in the Hunter Valley, as well as Verdehlo, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, ranging from premium Flagship to everyday favourites
