The aspiration of Oakridge LVS -- or Local Vineyard Series -- wines is to be outstanding expressions of single vineyards within the Yarra Valley. Local Vineyard Series wines enable wine lovers to compare and contrast the power of terroir and geography in winemaking. In essence, different grape varieties thrive in different soils, and Yarra Valley terroirs and altitudes vary widely. Oakridge’s expertise and understanding of the region allows viticulturists and winemakers to match a particular variety with a particular site -- with marvellous results. Oakridge Estate, founded in 1978, has had a longstanding reputation for quality. It has been blessed with a succession of talented winemakers. The winery, located at 864 Maroondah Highway at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley, is led by esteemed veteran winemaker Dave Bicknell. It is under his watch that Oakridge has blossomed and excelled. The fruit is sourced from both owned and independent grower vineyards. David and his team are renowned for producing exceptional single vineyard wines made with minimal intervention, and in using innovative and sustainable practices in winemaking and viticulture. The wines are beautifully made and illustrate the idea that winemaker’s intuition and skill are completely intertwined with the idea of distinguished vineyard site. The Reserve style wines, labelled 864 and released in top vintages, are outstanding and comprise a Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
