PIERRE JEAN VILLA Accroche Cœur, Crozes-Hermitage
Pierre-Jean Villa is part of the new generation of Northern Rhône producers making their mark on the region. His Accroche-Cœur’ Crozes-Hermitage is dark and vibrant, composed of 100% syrah. It shows youthful verve, an almost skittish energy, and spicy, al dente tannins. Fresh and vibrant, the wine is eager in the glass. The name ‘Accroche-Cœur’ translates to ‘heart hook’, and refers to the small tendrils of leaf that form on the end of vines.
The grapes for this wine come from youthful vines with less than 10 years of age, with a density of 5,500 vines per hectare. Fruit is destemmed and macerated for 15 days. It is aged for one year in a combination of 500 litre barrels, and ‘demi-muids’– 600 litre oak barrels typical of the Rhône. Racking and blending takes place six weeks prior to bottling.
