About this wine
Thörle Probstey Spätburgunder, Rheinhessen
A warmer site, layered with clay and flecked with iron, over a limestone substrata. The Probstey vineyard delivers more forceful wines. They are fuller of weight and defined by a realm of darker fruit flavours, ample spice, liquorice and earthenware. The tannins, more four-square and assertive. And yet, the acidity is no less fresh and energetic. This is a wine that demands patience, be it in the cellar for the mid-term, or a few hours in the decanter if broaching it on the earlier side. This is more reminiscent of top tier Nuits St.George, or Pommard.
