As yet unreviewed, the Cherubino Caves Road Chardonnay, Margaret River 2023 (RRP $55) has received scores in the mid to high 90s in previous vintages. 2023 was a fine vintage in Margaret River; we anticipate similar scores in the future. But why wait? We have tasted the wine, and we are satisfied that our lovers of the region's chardonnay and those who trust Larry Cherubino to deliver will be more than happy with the area—lemon meringue pie with a note of grapefruit and nougat, clean, pristine and delicious. Pour and pour again, as your house is white; even nine bottles will not last long. Drinkability is so often underrated in fine wine. We rate it highly.
While we have held back three bottles from Larry, we have replaced them with the 1st Classified 2021 Leeuwin Estate Art Series (RRP $152), the Classified 2022 Vasse Felix Heytesbury (RRP $120), and the 2021 McHenry Hohnen Calgardup Brook (RRP $80) which Jane Faulker notes as having 'Precision, definition and length' in her thumping 96-point review for Halliday. Tuck these three away in the cellar and let them spread their wings.
