About this wine
MUNDA WINES Ngadjuri and Peramangk Country Grenache, Barossa Valley, Eden Valley
Munda chooses minimal intervention in the winery, and prefers to bottle relatively early to reflect the brightness of their wines. The use of wild ferment, a combination of older French oak and stainless steel for maturation gives the wine pretty and immediately expressive, multi layered aromas of raspberry, dried cherries, lifted spices and rhubarb. Medium bodied with layers of tannins and savoury earthy flavours balanced with textured waves of spicy fruit. Complex, soft on the palate with a fineness and elegance counterbalanced with generosity and depth of texture that speaks of its munda (land or country).

From 40-year-old vines. A delicious, perfumed grenache that’s laden with red and blue fruits. Fresh and fine, able to mature well, but it’s hard to see any need other than drinking it at the first opportunity, albeit respecting its inherent quality. 3600 bottles made.

Aboriginal owned-and-operated wine project. Made by Marco Cirillo. It’s true to form for Barossa Grenache, rich in scents and flavours, dense in texture, warming, ripe, dark berry imbued but there’s a lift of spice and floral things amongst the more concentrated brooding feel, Good length, even feeling in the palate, a sense of luxury even with the flex.

Attractive and pretty, super perfumed Vine Vale Grenache that talks of raspberries, those rare wild raspberries that you don’t find at the supermarket so easily nowadays. Then it’s preserved strawberries, craisin (dried cranberries), wet red clay and dried bushes, and those unique scents of the Australian countryside. The palate is sweet red fruited, yet earthy and savoury and full of dried extract. It almost feels like someone has harvested wild red berries, native herbs and has squeezed them all together into the wine. The more I smell and taste this wine leads to more perfumed notes inundating my nose and palate. The length is reserved and ultra-fine, perhaps shying away from the striking mid-palate. Enjoy with grilled rare Southern bluefin tuna with spicy sauce. Drink: now- 2033.
