Burgundy Retrospective - Vintage 2019 Mixed 3-pack

Vintage 2019 was “the second of the trio (to date!) of hot dry vintages” according to Jasper Morris MW, marked by extremes of weather – late snow, frosts, storms, hail, heatwaves and rains. It is the Cote De Nuits that benefited greatly from this vintage, “where the most breath-taking wines of the vintage are to be found, along with some disasters.”

And what of the wines? An apt observation from Morris suggests “The Pinot has put away the ballet shoes and taken to the athletics tracks, in which one can still be extremely graceful, in a more powerful idiom. More than one producer mentioned that the alcohol shows more in 2018 but the ripeness of grape flavours is more evident in 2019.” The wines are a result of Scrupulous fruit selection, and deft winemaking. Think supple, polished and fragrant wines, from a ‘Goldilocks’ of sorts vintage.
