The queen of this selection is Quintarelli Bianco Secco Veneto IGT 2022 (RRP $110). A blend of garganega, trebbiano, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and saorin, the Bianoc Secco is a floral and zesty white wine from the Masters of the Veneto. Behind that unmistakable label is a garganega (the grape used to make Soave) led wine given layers of complexity by the multifaceted weight, shape, and texture of the varietal selection. It is as easy to get lost in this wine as it is to lose track of it and the all-too-soon empty bottle. It dances, skips by in an instant and leaves a lasting impression—nymph-like and utterly seductive.
Carlo Ferrini is best known for 'super veloce' red Super Tuscans. So why do we find him in Sicily making Etna Bianco from the indigenous grape carricante? When you've had the success Ferrini has, you make what you want and where you want to. His winemaking wanderlust is our discovery. His daughter Bianca has delivered the Giodo Albarelli Di Giodo Carricante Etna Bianco DOC 2021 (RRP $135) in all its jasmine, honeysuckle and citrus glory. Edgy, mineral, and complex, the Albarelli Di Giodo has a presence and enough about it to develop in the cellar (somewhere between riesling and semillon but in the Mediterranean). It is a delicious and interesting wine that has very strong reviews.
The quality in this 6-pack goes deep with sauvignon blanc from Shaw & Smith, an assyrtiko from Jim Barry, a Rioja Blanco from Artadi and a Sudtirol Sudtirol from Eisacktaler Kellerei. All bankable producers make wines you just want to drink.
