About this wine
Château Léoville-Poyferre 2me Cru Classé, Saint-Julien
Purchased by the Cuvelier family in the 1920s, the estate’s long and storied history has involved the merging of estates, changing of hands, and a range of vineyard management techniques, some more successful than others. However, in the hands of Didier Cuvelier, a quick leap forward in quality took place around 1982. Changes in direction, including the addition of Michel Rolland and Emilie Peynaud to the production team, rapid modernization of winemaking facilities and a replanting of 20 hectares of vines, have yielded superb results.
The 2016 continues the Château’s modern upward trajectory with a raft of critical praise for this “powerful, vivid, and captivating” wine.

Expert Review
James Suckling
The center-palate is impressive for this, the second wine of Leoville Poyferre, with a medium to full body, blackcurrant and chocolate character and a creamy texture. A blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 16% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot.
93-94 points.
