About this wine

A savoury, spicy Shiraz made in an Old World style, the O’Riada Shiraz displays perfumed red fruit supported by vibrant acidity and ripe tannins. The wine is named after Sean O’Riada, John Kirk’s much admired cousin and an Irish musician and composer, who took traditional Irish music out of the kitchens and pubs of Ireland and put it on the world stage for all to enjoy. He died, prematurely in 1971, the year Clonakilla was established by John Kirk. The O’Riada is made from fruit sourced from four vineyards around Murrumbateman in NSW.

The story of Clonakilla is one of risk and ingenuity, of vision, generosity and faith.  Founded in 1971, Clonakilla grew from a small, struggling boutique winery in the marginal wine region of Murrumbateman to become an icon of ultra-fine Australian wine. Under the skilled winemaking of Chief Winemaker Tim Kirk, Clonakilla’s remarkable flagship wine, the Langton’s Classified ‘Exceptional’ Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier has risen to become a definitive example of its genre.
