About this wine
Domaine Lionnet Terre Brûlée , Cornas, Cornas
Domaine Lionnet Terre Brûlée is an evocative and deftly crafted Cornas wine from a name that has been producing wine in the Northern Rhône since the Middle Ages. A classic Cornas from vignerons Corinne Lionnet and husband Ludovic Izerable, it is made with tradition in mind and sustainable practices. Grapes are harvested by hand and vinified as whole bunches with indigenous yeasts. Domaine Lionnet has been certified organic since 2009. This results in wines that are pure, unadulterated Northern Rhône. This is Domaine Lionnet’s flagship cuvée.
The Terre Brûlée is a textured and savoury Cornas. Dark and dense, it’s a concentrated attack of mineral purity and a brooding aura. Astonishingly aromatic, it is redolent with spice, smoked meats, violet and olive. This has so much potential - two decades would do it well. A Cornas to treasure and remember.

Similarly deep purple-hued, the 2020 Cornas Terre Brulee has a darker, slightly richer, yet less complex style that also warrants bottle age. Offering more black fruits, scorched earth, burning embers, and ground pepper, it packs serious depth and power on the palate and is full-bodied, has lots of tannins, and a great finish. It's brilliant, but don't think about opening bottles for at least 5-6 years.

Inky ruby. Intensely perfumed, mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry aromas, along with exotic spice, floral and pipe tobacco flourishes. Alluringly sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering sappy cherry-cola, dark berry, fruitcake, allspice and olive flavors that deepen steadily through the back half. Shows firm tension and excellent clarity on the youthfully tannic finish, which echoes the floral note and hangs on with superb tenacity.

Good sense of aromatic clarity and freshness. Well balanced with good acidity and controlled alcohol. Chewy, slightly chalky tannins that are plentiful and detailed - very Cornas in texture with a long finish. Tannic and lean, fresh and cleansing.
