About this wine
Domaine Ponsot Vertical of Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (2010 to 2015) 6-pack
This Grand Cru is produced from the estate's largest holding, with 3.4 hectares of old vines averaging around 60 years in age1. The majority of Ponsot's vines are located within the original 4-hectare Clos de la Roche itself, representing about 75% of this historic plot.
The wine is known for its exceptional depth, complexity, and aging potential. It typically exhibits a rich flavor profile with notes of red and black fruits, spices, and earthy undertones. The Clos de la Roche terroir, with its Jurassic-era shallow soils, imparts a distinctive minerality and structure to the wine.
In this 6-pack, you will find one bottle each of the following:
Domaine Ponsot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2010

(Tasted separately from the 150th anniversary). A softer more evolved colour, softly perfumed too as the wine starts to evolve gently. Discreet at the front, cherry notes, softer raspberry, orange rind, complex and multi-faceted, the orange rind reappearing at the back. Not immense in terms of body but supremely elegant. Very persistent and still showing useful acidity. The elegance continues right through to the extended finish. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted Feb 2021.

Voluptuous red fruits on the nose, velvety and seductive. A sleek attack, opulent and luxurious with striking depth and concentration of fruit. The firm tannins are balanced by fine acidity, and this has fabulous balance and remarkable length. It will live for decades.

Full medium red. Multidimensional nose combines black cherry, dark raspberry, mocha, brown spices, crushed rock and mellow soil tones. Wonderfully concentrated and elegant, and more expressive in the early going if a bit less sappy than the Chapelle-Chambertin. Offers a mix of red and black fruits (the Chapelle is more black in character) as well as a medicinal menthol quality that suggests the wine will evolve slowly. This plush, broad, mouthfilling wine finishes very long, with suave, refined tannins and captivating minerality and savory soil tones. In a dozen years, my score may look low.
95+ points, Domaine Ponsot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2015, vinous.com
Domaine Ponsot is rich in history. It was one of the very first domaines in Burgundy to bottle its own wines (in the 1870s) and to begin selling wines under its own label (in the 1930s).
Clonal selection of pinot noir also began here. Ponsot provided the ‘mother plants’ from ancient Clos de la Roche vines for the first approved Burgundy clones – all of the so-called Dijon clones were taken from Ponsot cuttings in the Clos de la Roche.
Ponsot has fabulous holdings including perfectly situated parcels of very old vines (100+ years) in Clos St Denis and Clos de la Roche, where Ponsot is the largest land owner with 3.4ha – some three-quarters of the original vineyard.
There are smaller holdings in Chambertin, Griotte Chambertin, Chapelle Chambertin, Clos de Bèze, Charmes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Corton, Corton Bressandes, Corton Charlemagne, le Montrachet, Chambolle Musigny 1er cru Les Charmes, and Morey 1er cru Clos de la Monts Luisants (white and red). There is also some Bourgogne rouge and superb village wines from Morey, Gevrey and Chambolle.
