About this wine
Mesh Eden Valley Riesling
From three vineyards high on the slopes of Eden Valley, pickers pedantically divide Riesling grapes row by row. Clare Valley’s Jeffrey Grosset and Eden Valley’s Robert Hill Smith oversee the whole process before taking their chosen half of harvest, parting ways and interpreting the fruit as they each see fit.
Each element of the split harvest begins as nearly identical – save for the fruit selected after vine tasting from Jeffrey and Robert – but are made according to the two makers respective philosophies. After that, and much debate, both efforts are blended to showcase a subline Eden Valley Riesling.
What the makers say
‘I'm convinced that we have been able to achieve more in quality terms by working together and sharing our knowledge. The chance to contribute to the reputation of the region and the variety is very exciting and the fact that Robert and I share a passion for Riesling is, for me, what makes this project so special’
Jeffrey Grosset, Grosset Wines
‘This single word represents so much of the philosophy behind the wine – the weaving together of ideas & the combining of skills and knowledge.’
Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba

Decanter
Roger Jones: Incredible purity of ripe stone fruit. The palate is seamless and the mouthfeel immense, all kept in check by perfect acidity.
Sarah Knowles MW: Intense lime and struck match. A precise, linear wine, with toasty development underneath classic lemon and lime fruit.
Anthony Rose: Evolving well with classic honey and butter notes behind the citrus fruits, lightly infused with complex toastiness. Fresh and dry.
98 points, Decanter Magazine, Australian Riesling panel tasting (November 2017)

Jeremy Oliver
Brilliantly pure and translucently intense, with an exuberant, heady bouquet of fresh lime juice, apple and pear lifted by scents of lavender and white flowers, with underlying chalky, mineral notes. Long and vibrant, with an essential presence of lime juice and lemon rind above a fine chalkiness, It's tightly wound around a fresh, focused acidity, finishing with beautiful shape and definition.
96 Points, Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2014 Edition

Huon Hooke
Youthful, light to medium yellow colour, young for its years. The bouquet is likewise fresh, with developed herbal nuances and steely mineral aromas. A subtle background of buttered toast. The wine is rich and full, but seriously dry on the palate, thanks to scarily high acidity and a dead-dry lack of residual sweetness. Very good and it would be best with fish.
94 points, Huon Hooke (January 2018)

Mike Bennie
This is a belter and up there with the best Mesh releases. Shy aromas of flowers, lemongrass, citrus peel and talc – but the palate is insanely vigorous, ballistically refreshing, tense to the point of rigidity but then offers a flow of crisp, steely acidity that takes delicate citrussy flavours long. It’s no doubt a purist’s Eden Valley riesling, showcasing the inward concentration of fruit and clean lines you can get from the variety, but a pinch of chalky phenolics lends textural complexity for more interest and the wine finishes stony-dry and fresh. Impact is brilliant, flavours dart across the palate and vitality is high. So good to drink, and I suspect, cellar for interest too. In the immortal words of Alf Stewart, ‘flamin’ ‘eck!’.
95+ points, Mike Bennie (December 2012)
