About this wine
JIM BARRY WINES The Armagh Shiraz, Clare Valley
The authentic and beautifully-concentrated Classifed The Armagh Shiraz, is a powerfully-compressed wine that explodes with aroma and flavour. Intense, plush and generous, the oak is hidden behind curtains of deep, ripe, intense fruit and extraordinarily fine, structured tannins.
The vineyard is hand-harvested, with several passes, to achieve optimum ripeness and flavour profile. Vinification takes place in two-tonne, open-top fermenters with heading-down boards. Regular rack-and-return and pump-overs take place to optimise extraction of colour and flavour; in some vintages post-ferment maceration may be an option. At completion of fermentation the wine is pressed off and matured in a combination of new and old French and American oak hogsheads for 13 to 19 months.

LANGTONS
Deep crimson red with purple tints. Shows the hallmarks of low-yielding vines, with intense, tightly-coiled aromas of cranberry, mulberry, boysenberry and spearmint and underlying notes of rosemary, sage, cinnamon, cedar and black pepper. On the palate, flavours of redcurrants, black cherries and blueberries are in abundance, with an undercurrent of freshly turned earth and truffles in the background. Great length of flavour and power, while still showing finesse and restraint. A challenger to Henschke Hill of Grace as leading Australian single-vineyard Shiraz.

Rich and beefy, oyster shell and liquorice, mint chocolate, blackberries and toast. Full bodied, glycerol feel with fresh acidity, gentle grainy tannin and a cool truffle and menthol aftertaste. Has a subtle peppery edge and raspberry flavour, which is welcomed. Good length and vitality for a big wine. Will be interesting to see how it evolves.
92+ points, The Wine Front (May 2016)

Huon Hooke
Deep dark purple/red hue; a bouquet showing some chaffy, jammy and overripe nuances. It's almost a little closed at the present. The palate is a little broad and lacking shape, the tannins chewy and pervasive. A trace of pepper, which isn't often seen in Armagh. Firm, well-crafted tannins that run the length of the palate. Very good... will be long lived. Drink 2017-2045. 94 points, Real Review (10/2015).

Deep garnet-purple in colour, the 2012 Armagh has a very complex nose of ripe, red and blackcurrants, black cherries accented by hints of aniseed, beef, fertile earth and dried herbs. Medium-bodied, the mouthfilling and intense palate has elegant, earthy and savoury nuances. seamlessly intertwined with pure fruit and shaped by ripe, rounded tannins, balanced freshness and a very long, structured finish. 98 points, Wine Advocate.
