About this wine
LANGTONS Astralis and Cos d'Estournel 6 pack, McLaren Vale, St-Estephe
For our latest pack we are pairing up the best of Australia with the best of Bordeaux. Two epic wines for 50% off that showcases two exceptional terroirs and the art of fine winemaking.
Clarendon Hills Astralis Syrah is one of Australia's great single vineyard wines. Clarendon Hills' Astralis Syrah leads the ultra-fine wine movement, rooted in an exceptional vineyard, precise winemaking, and unique expression. Inspired by 1950s-60s South Australian wines, winemaker Roman Bratasiuk acquired McLaren Vale's old Elysium winery, shaping modern winemaking. Fruit from 19th-century colonial vines, cuttings sourced from Chateau Reynella, thrives in loamy, clay soils on the four-hectare, 45-degree, east-facing Astralis Vineyard slope. Minimalist winemaking - hand picked fruit, open fermentations, 18 months' oak maturation - crafts the Astralis Syrah. Dark liquorice, blackberry, mocha aromas, and seamless, finely wrought tannins define its impactful, vibrant style.
You'll get four bottles of the exceptional 2011 Astralis in this pack. Rated 96-points by Robert Parker, "it fills the mouth with elegant, effortless fruit, with a medium level of finely grained tannins, just enough acidity, and a long and multi-layered finish" and 95-points by Jeremy Oliver, "Very impressive... a delightful expression of fruit, this artfully balanced, genuinely and evenly ripened shiraz unfolds..."
Majestic, intense, full-bodied and tannic, Cos d’Estournel is considered the leading wine of Saint-Estèphe. Highly tannic in its youth, over time it develops much much like the great wines of adjoining Pauillac. You'll get 2 bottles of the epic 2021 Cos in this pack. Antonio Galloni rates it 96 point, "The 2021 Cos d'Estournel is a wine of real breadth and volume" while William Kelley waxed lyrical rating 95-points and saying, "2021 Cos d'Estournel is very promising, offering up rich aromas of dark berries, plums, exotic spices, loamy soil and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless palate that's impressively vibrant and concentrated, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, penetrating finish."
