LANGTONS Cru Barolo 6-Pack MV Set
About this wine
LANGTONS Cru Barolo 6-Pack
The Langhe is Italy’s Côte d'Or. Nebbiolo is its great variety and is elevated to a regal state when it becomes Barolo. Known as the king of wines and the wine of kings, Barolo has most typically been blended from different vineyards. More recently, however, the high end has focused on site specificity. These wines are known as ‘Cru Barolo’.
This case includes one bottle of each of the following:
Roberto Voerzio Rocche Dell Annunziata, Barolo DOCG 2016
Poderi Aldo Conterno Bussia Romirasco 2017
Luigi Oddero Rocche Rivera , Barolo DOCG 2016
Ceretto Prapò, Barolo DOCG 2017
Michele Chiarlo Cerequio Riserva, Barolo 2013
Brezza Sarmassa Vigna Bricco Riserva , Barolo DOCG 2013

Lots of floral aromas, such as lilacs and roses, with crushed raspberries and strawberries. Sandalwood, too. Full-bodied and very powerful with incredible depth of fruit and chewy tannins. It goes on for minutes. Try after 2026.

New leather, pressed rose, underbrush, dark spice and camphor are just some of the aromas you'll find on this extraordinary red. Full bodied, with depth and finesse, the elegant, structured palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and tobacco framed in firm fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity provides impeccable balance and aging potential. Drink 2024–2036.

Aromas of dried strawberries, cherries, charcoal and dried flowers follow through to a full body with tight, chewy tannins that are well integrated into the wine. It shows black truffle and berry in the aftertaste. Needs at least four years to open, so try after 2025.

Rose, crushed mint, red berry and baking spice aromas shape the nose on this fragrant red. Seamlessly combining structure and finesse, the focused palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, pomegranate, licorice and menthol alongside firm, fine-grained tannins while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. It's still youthfully austere and promises excellent aging potential.

The Sarmassa vineyard lies just across the top road into Barolo from its more famous neighbour Cannubi, and Enzo Brezza’s Vigna del Bricco Riserva comes from the finest, south-facing slopes of this cru. 2013 was a lovely vintage in Barolo: a cooler summer leading to wines of exceptional aromatic profile and understated structure. Just 2,500 bottles of this elegant, Burgundian-style interpretation were produced.

Enticing aromas of orange peel, mushrooms and plums with hints of stone and dark chocolate. This is a very tight wine with chewy, focused tannins that hit you just at the end. It’s tight and reserved now. Give it two or three years to start to open up.

Though well-marked by new oak, there's a vibrant quality to this Barolo, along with cherry, raspberry, iron, tar and tobacco flavors. Supple, almost elegant, with a long, spicy aftertaste, this shows plenty of detail and energy. Best from 2025 through 2040.

Rocche Rivera is a 2.5-hectare parcel inside the Scarrone cru located in Castiglione Falletto with sandy calcareous soils. The celebrated Rocche di Castiglione is located adjacent, and the Pira cru is directly above. Rocche Rivera enjoys an ideal position in one of the best-performing areas of the appellation in this classic vintage. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2016 Barolo Rocche Rivera is stunning, with a level of harmony and purity that makes an immediate and lasting impact. The wine shows pristine fruit aromas backed by wild rose, tar, ash and blood orange. Those aromas hang in perfect balance. The wine is firmly compact and solid in terms of mouthfeel, requiring a few extra years of cellar time to fully unwind. This beautiful 6,000-bottle release will hit the market in October 2020.

The most powerful wine in this grouping is the Ceretto 2017 Barolo Prapò that draws its fruit from a historic site in Serralunga d'Alba. These results are compact and rock-solid, with a deep well of plummy black and purple fruits packed tight at the core. Mineral notes of iron ore, crushed brick and dark licorice fill in the rear. Despite the hot and dry growing conditions, the wines from Serralunga d'Alba show very well across the board in 2017.

Controlling 120 hectares across Piedmont, Chiarlo produces many wines, including a great Cerequio from La Morra. The scarce Riserva comes from a 0.9ha parcel, aged initially in tonneaux and then in casks. The nose is robust with cherry and rose-petal aromas, and just a hint of boiled sweets. Bright and limpid, this has charm and elegance rather than great weight and concentration. It's still tight thanks to good acidity, and the structure is deceptively discreet. Elegant, poised and polished, this is a well balanced and persistent Riserva.
