This is so concentrated. The 2019 Shiraz Langi is intense, powerful and structural, but its real attribute is its austerity of line. It has ferruginous notes and graphite, with coal dust and crushed peppercorns, ductile and lithe and pliable somehow. This is clearly a wine to age, although if you dive in now, you will swim through the delights of forest fruits and wall-to-wall flavor. This is a very big wine, but not a wine to overlook on that account... This wine is revered for its legacy and capacity for aging. Patience is recommended.

James Suckling
A pristine and complex shiraz that exudes such sweetly fragrant spices, as well as pepper, blackberry and dark plum. The palate has piercing drive with fine tannins wrapping a core of dark-plum and cherry-flavored fruit that is boosted by a zesty kick of acidity. Elegant, yet concentrated. Drink over the next decade. Screw cap.

Top of tree shiraz from Langi, the Langi. There’s 60% new French oak here, and that’s a commitment to this wine that rings loud in a way. A legacy wine, Aussie wine pride.
It’s lavishly seasoned, first and last things are clove, cinnamon, tobacco, cedar, amongst that white pepper, dark, stewed berries, choc-cherries and faint game meat notes. Slightly resinous character to taste but the smoothness and length are notable. Great depth, concentration and complexity, serious flavour and richness yet lift. One of those wines that stamps its authority quickly. Drinkers/loyalists will find this ever impressive and righteous. That oak seasoning extravagance does make me pause, though.

Powerful and layered bouquet showing aromas of sage, black pepper, dark plums and classic meaty nuances. Warm and rich, a lot of wine here.

Mount Langi Ghiran
Mount Langi Ghiran is a premium wine producer based in the Grampians region of Victoria. Originally planted as early as 1870, the original Shiraz vineyard was replanted in 1963 by the Frantin brothers. Intrigued by the high quality of the Fratin’s fruit, Trevor Mast joined Mount Langi Ghiran as a consultant winemaker in 1978. In 1987 Trevor, together with his wife Sandra Mast purchased the property and quickly established a strong following for the Langi Shiraz, one of Australia’s finest cool climate wines. The winery was sold in 2002 to the Rathbone family. Dan Buckle took over the winemaking from Trevor in 2003, continuing the vision and pursuit of quality that Trevor had set out. Tragically Trevor Mast passed away prematurely in 2012. His extraordinary vision continues to live on in the wines of Mount Langi Ghiran.
