ABOUT THE WINERY
Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards
Langton’s Selections Oliver’s Taranga HJ Reserve Shiraz, Oliver’s Taranga Shiraz The Oliver family arrived in South Australia form Scotland in 1839 shortly after the Reynells. The Whitehall and Taranga farms, a few kilometres north of McLaren Vale, still remain in family hands after six generations. The Taranga farm is a 110 hectare vineyard planted to a fruit salad of varieties. The Shiraz fruit is exceptional. Parcels often land up as components of Penfolds Grange and Hardy’s Eileen Hardy Shiraz. Don Oliver is regarded as one of the great independent wine growers in the region. In 1994 The Oliver Family made its own wines from parcels of selected fruit at the Boars Rock winery. Corrina Rayment (nee Oliver) is the family’s first winemaker. It is perhaps not surprising that the Taranga Shirazes have done particularly well on the secondary wine market. The HJ Reserve has found a very strong niche and it trades up there with the very best that McLaren Vale has to offer. While it is still early days, Oliver’s Taranga is a very compelling work in progress. It has all the elements required to make it into the big time. Andrew Caillard MW, Langton's
