Expert Review
Huon Hooke
Very dense colour with purple-black hues, the aromas full of dried herbs and freshly tilled earth aromas, and hints of sage and thyme that re-appear in the mouth. A very full-bodied wine with lashings of tannins that are savoury and drying yet supple, the formidable flavour and structure reverberating for a long time on the aftertaste. Tremendous intensity, concentration and persistence. A ripping shiraz. (18-20% new oak, all French)

James Halliday
Sourced from a single elevated vineyard. Fermented in Seppeltsfield's 1888 Gravity Cellar and matured for 14 months in new and used French hogsheads. Deep, bright crimson through to the rim. Evocative bouquet of spiced plum and cedar aromas without any overripe notes, then a full-bodied palate that dares to have elegance and balance.

Seppeltsfield is a showpiece of the Barossa Valley, a magnificent complex of 19th century winery buildings surrounded by almost 100 hectares of vineyards. Seppeltsfield was a focal point of the fledgling Barossa wine industry from the 1850s and now boasts the world’s longest unbroken chain of vintage wines, going back to 1878, enabling the release of a genuine 100-year-old fortified wine each year since 1978. Apart from the extraordinary range of fortifieds, Seppeltsfield today also produces a range of limited production table wines, including blends of Shiraz, Grenache and Touriga, and sparkling wines under the Gert’s Blend label.
