James Suckling
A plot planted in 1921, behind the Mother’s Vineyard, out behind the winery. There’s a very precise and fragrant feel with meaty, charcuterie notes on the nose and a wealth of complimentary, new-cask spice. The palate has a rich, red and dark-berry core, very tight tannins and a smooth and seamless, fine but dense texture. Exceptional value. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

New livery for all the old ‘white label’ Shiraz wines, so I’ll update when I have bottle images to hand later. Meanwhile, the old stalwart Vat 5 is now this wine, from a vineyard planted in 1921.
New leather, perfume of violet, a little spice, creamy vanilla, cherry and boysenberry. Medium bodied, earthy, silty rich tannin, juicy sweet fruit, excellent finish leading with tannin and closing with a wonderful supple fruit-rich charm. Such great drinking. 94+ points.
