About this wine

TYRRELL'S Pokolbin Hills Semillon, Hunter Valley

Planted in 1970 by Reg Drayton, Tyrrell’s had made the wine for Reg Drayton wines for many years before taking on the lease of the vineyard in the early 90’s. The Pokolbin Hills vineyard is the source for this Pokolbin Hills Semillon and the Cabernet component of Tyrrell's Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet.

The fruit for this wine was handpicked on 24 January 2019 before being lightly pressed. The free-run juice was then fermented at cool temperatures in stainless-steel tanks. Pokolbin Hills is similar to Short Flat, the wine always exhibits an extra dimension and depth of flavour not seen in many Semillons. It shows an intense citrus core and lovely texture through the mid-palate, with a brisk acidity that gives the wine great length and tension.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Tyrrell’s
Tyrrell’s is one of the oldest family wineries in Australia with a history dating to the mid 19th century. In 1850 Edward Tyrrell arrived in Sydney. He was eventually granted 330 acres of prime Hunter Valley land, planting his first vines in 1858. Tyrrell’s first vintage in 1864 began a family tradition of winemaking in the Hunter Valley. His original slab hut is still standing today. The economic slump in the 1930s,saw a decline in production as demand waned. Over the years Tyrrell’s has managed to survive and thrive, producing numerous wines including a handful of premium wines including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon, Vat 47 Chardonnay and Vat 9 Shiraz.
