Cassis, lavender, eucalyptus, old school pen ink, choc-mint, wet bark and fresh turned earth. Savoury and so beautiful to sniff on. Glossy texture, concentrated, dense and rich, but lifted on threads of ultra-fine tannin, a kind of silk-brushed-the-wrong-way feel in the palate and all that lush, cassis and floral, eucalyptus and a brined black olive note too. Magic wine, so much going on, understated in a way to taste and sumptuous at the same time.

With no straight cabernet this vintage, this ends up as 70/30% cabernet/malbec. While shiraz and malbec are good friends, cabernet and malbec are lovers. This is the wine that smells of Wendouree: the bush, the winery and the vineyards resplendent with gnarly centenarian and ‘younger' vines. Plush, ripe fruit, all currant and blackberry accented, perfumed with aniseed, wild herbs and dark chocolate studded with mint. Lovely tannins and time on its side. If you can wait. If you can get some.
